WWE: Kurt Angle wants his real kayfabe son to get a main event push
Chad Gable is now known as Shorty G in the world of WWE, and Kurt Angle wants his real illegitimate kayfabe son to get a main event push in 2020.
Remember when Kurt Angle tearfully announced that Jason Jordan was his illegitimate son on WWE Raw and we were embarking on a slow-burn heel turn for Jordan? The former American Alpha tag team member hasn’t wrestled due to a devastating injury, just when he was starting to become one of wrestling’s breakout stars.
This year, his former tag team partner Chad Gable has been involved in a bizarre storyline and push. “Shorty G”, as he’s now known in WWE canon, nearly beat Baron Corbin to become the King of the Ring, and while he didn’t actually win the tournament, he did win our hearts.
As strange as his new name is and as grating as the short jokes are, fans are anxious for Gable to get the spotlight. (I will refuse to call him by his new name for the duration of this article, simply because I am sipping milk while typing this and would otherwise laugh said liquid all over my keyboard every time I type out “Shorty G”…welp at least Black Friday is around the corner so I can get a new laptop…)
Although Jordan was named Angle’s illegitimate son for storyline purposes, fans have always joked that Gable, who takes his name from a former standout Olympic wrestler, would have fit the bill better. After all, they also have the amateur wrestling background, the willingness to poke fun at themselves with brilliant comedic timing, and a beautiful moonsault.
And for what it’s worth, Angle recently said in his famous Facebook Q&As that Gable is one of the wrestlers he’d love to see getting a main event push going into 2020.
The others? Former Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander and former Becky Lynch rival Lacey Evans, who are both excellent choices.
But so is Gable. Fans fondly remember his excellent tag team work with Jordan and have admired his singles work, too. He was THE star of the King of the Ring tournament, and it would be nice to see him get a big push.
No, a main event push isn’t likely, but it isn’t impossible either if enough fans get behind him. He can count Angle as one key supporter, though it’s no surprise that Gable’s REAL kayfabe father is a fan.
