WWE fans heard rumors of Sheamus’ impending return from injury, and they were greeted with an awesome video package and a throwback hairstyle.

Although Sheamus wasn’t always the most beloved superstar in WWE, he has since become appreciated as a veteran of the business and a future Hall of Famer. His tag team work with Cesaro as “The Bar”, which formed in late 2016 after the most recent brand split, was exemplary, and while that tag team won’t be reunited for the foreseeable future, it made fans develop a new appreciation for The Celtic Warrior’s in-ring skills.

Sheamus has been away from WWE television for months due to an injury, but he returned as part of the SmackDown brand on the show’s Nov. 29 episode.

And now, we’re all super hyped to see what’s next for the four-time world champion.

Check out that video package promo!

More importantly, check out Sheamus’ “new” look! It’s a throwback to his run over a decade ago, because in 2019/2020, what’s old is new, right?

Sheamus took shots at several SmackDown superstars. The Fiend, King Corbin, and Shorty G all drew the ire of The Celtic Warrior, though the accomplished tag team wrestler pretty much hated on the entire roster, promising to “ravage” anyone standing in his path.

He clearly has ambitions to win a title on the Blue Brand in 2020, which means a world title matchup or United States Championship bout at a Pay Per View on the Road to WrestleMania isn’t impossible, especially if fans get behind Sheamus in his return. He certainly has nostalgia and experience on his side, and, again, wrestling fans have developed a renewed appreciation for his wrestling skills and promo chops (particularly his comedic timing).

In any case, it’s great to see a healthy, motivated Sheamus back on our screens. He’s accomplished plenty in WWE, and it will be interesting to see how his gimmick develops on this new-look landscape of SmackDown. We could use a down-to-earth character on the show, and fans will be curious to see how his alignment develops. He appears to be a heel, but his promo gives him room to switch depending on how the audience reacts.

A feud with Corbin would be great, but a series of matches with Shorty G on SmackDown? Count me in NOW! And as for The Fiend, that match will depend on how much momentum Sheamus can build.
