Roman Reigns vs. Robert Roode

Lockup to start. Roode transitions into a headlock onto Reigns. Reigns pushes him against the ropes only to get shoulder blocked. Roode brags about knocking the Big Dog off his feet. “This is my yard tonight!”

Roode locks another headlock onto Reigns. The latter struggles to fight out of it until he finally does. Roode sells the hell out of it as Roman gets out of the headlock and shoulder blocks Roode out the ring.

Ziggler briefly distracts Reigns until Roode works Roman into the corner with a series of stomps. He tries to follow up with a punch, but Roman answers with a harder punch. Reigns works Roode into the corner for a 10-punch and sends Roode to the outside, where he hits a Drive By Kick.

He pulls Roode back in the ring, but a distraction from Ziggler (Ziggler grabs his foot), Roman gets pushed by Roode into the announce table. Roode follows up with a spinebuster onto the announce table, then drives the former Universal Champion into the barricade twice to send us into a commercial break.

Back from the break, Roman is just starting his comeback spot. You know the drill. Running clothesline after clothesline. Series of clotheslines in the corner followed by a big boot. Sets up a Superman Punch only for Ziggler to cause a distraction on the apron, allowing Roode to get a nearfall off a rollup. He follows up with a Blockbuster off the middle rope, leading to another nearfall.

Roodes sets up his Glorious DDT, but Roman turns it into a rollup, which he then turns into a deadlift sit-out powerbomb for a nearfall. He then sets up one more Superman Punch, but Ziggler pulls Roode out the ring. So Roman runs out the ring and Superman Punches Ziggler, allowing Roman to get driven into the ring post – then the steel steps – by Roode.

Roode rolls him back in the ring before climbing to the top. He dives only to get hit by a mid-air Superman Punch for another nearfall. As the crowd cheers Roman on, Roman’s energized enough to set up a Spear, but runs into a Spinebuster for a two and a half count.

Behind the ref’s back, Corbin slides his scepter to Roode. Corbin goes to distract the ref as Roode goes to hit Reigns, but gets uppercutted. Roman Superman Punches Corbin off the apron, then Spears Roode for the win.

Ziggler blindsides Roman from behind after the match. He tunes up the band, but instead of a superkick, he gets caught with a Samoan Drop. Corbin enters the ring only to get his shoulder driven into the ring post. Ultimately, it’s Roode who gets the upperhand by nailing Roman in the back of the head with the scepter. He then exits the ring to pick up a chair. He re-enters the ring and sets up Roman’s head onto the folding chair. He goes to clobber the scepter into Roman’s head, but Roman gets out the way and hits a Superman Punch.

Upon realizing Roode basically tried to murder him, seeing the dented chair, he Spears Roode through the barricade. And for added measure, he tosses some announcer’s chairs at a prone Roode, then flips the whole announce desk at him. He then picks up the steel steps and nails Ziggler with them.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Grade: C

This picked up a bit by the end, but something just wasn’t clicking between these two during the match. Not sure if it’s a lack of chemistry or the way the match was produced, but I just wasn’t feeling it for the most part. On the brightside, the post-match angle rocked.
