Kris Statlander (0-2) vs. Hikaru Shida (4-2)

Statlander and Shida started the match trying to exchange a few holds. Statlander kicked out of a headscissors and Shida then played to the crowd before locking up again. The crowd popped huge for Shida, which I take as a very good sign.

Statlander cartwheeled out of an arm wringer, and continued to cartwheel around the ring before booping Hikaru Shida. Shida resonded with a forearm and a dropkick to the side of the head.

Kris sent Shida onto the apron and knocked her to the floor. Statlander went for a moonsault to the floor, but Shida moved out of the way and hit a knee to Statlander’s face before grabbing a chair from under the ring and going for her flying knee off the chair. Statlander caught her and threw Shida into the guardrail before bringing her back to the ring for a 2 count.

Statlander hit a handstand legdrop and a flipping senton for a 2 count. Statlander reversed an Irish whip into the corner and then hit a running elbow and kick before hitting the Oklahoma roll on Shida for a 2 count.

Shida cut of Statlander as she went to the top ropes and went for a deadlift suplex from the apron, but Statlander pulled Shida back to the apron. Statlander went for an Electric Chair from the apron, but Shida fought out and kicked her in the head.

Shida then hit a running knee strike off the apron and threw her back into the ring. Shida hit a missile dropkick off the top and got a 2 count. Statlander hit a backbreaker, but Shida immediately transitioned into an armbar on Statlander, but Statlander made the ropes. Statlander ended up on the apron, so Shida finally hit her deadlift suplex back into the ring and got a 2 count.

Both women exchanged enziguries, but Statlander got the better of her and hit an electric chair and then an axe kick for a 2 count. Statlander went for a slam, but Shida fought out and rolled Statlander up. Shida hit the ropes and hit the running knee for a 2 count.

Statlander hit a roundhouse kick, but Shida hit a running knee. Statlander hit the Michenoku Driver, but Shida kicked out. Statlander cradled Shida and the The Big Bang and pinned Shida!

Result: Kris Statlander (1-2)

Rating: **** (4 stars)

This was a huge upset for Statlander, and definitely a star making match. Statlander has to move up in the rankings after defeating the #1 contender. AEW has a big star in her, and I expect a match with Riho would be excellent. The lights went out after the match and Awesome Kong made her way down to ringside.

Brandi Rhodes came out with a mic and talked about what she has been doing with Kong. She said that they are the Nightmare Collective, and they do the jobs that no one else wants to do, and that they do it how they see fit, with no questions asked.

Rhodes said that she had no business with Statlander, but she was in the way, but offered Statlander a chance to join the Nightmare Collective.

Brandi asked Statlander to pledge herself to the Nightmare Collective, but she seemed to hesitate. Before Kong could attack Statlander, A fan yelled that she would pledge herself to the collective, offering her hair to Kong and Brandi.

Kong cut off her hair as Brandi pet her. This was weird. Brandi called for a razor and shaved a little hair off before heading backstage with the fan, who looked happy. I’m not sure about this. This was a very weird segment.
