2. Drake Maverick is in a great spot on SmackDown

SmackDown had some pretty, uh, interesting segments this week. Handcuffs, spanking, dog food, cucking, eyelash pulling, short jokes that didn’t involve Shorty G, and some other non-PG jokes were all apart of the episode.

One person that was involved in the majority of these odd events was Drake Maverick. The former 205 Live General Manager and WWE 24/7 Champion is now apart of the blue brand, and it doesn’t seem like he is off to a great start.

On the main roster, so far, Drake Maverick has peed his pants, has not consummated his marriage, got pinned at his wedding, got pinned in his underwear, openly tried to cheat on his wife, got spanked, and has lost a few matches and “fights” in even fewer seconds.

So, one would think that Maverick should be irate with his position in the company and that he is getting buried at the moment, but that just is not the case. Maverick’s comedic timing and commitment to being the butt of the joke has put him in a unique position for WWE programming.

Maverick has the ability to get himself over without actually going over. His segments are always hilarious, and since he is constantly the butt of the joke yet so entertaining, the audience will soon start to feel for him and naturally turn him into a babyface underdog (similar to Heath Slater after he did not get drafted in the 2016 draft).

His ability to stand out with his size (or lack thereof), comedy, and unique “backstory” of not being a trained wrestler (which is why he challenged Elias to a fight rather than a match) makes Maverick irreplaceable because he can elevate almost any talent that he works with.

Drake Maverick, the former Rockstar Spud of TNA, thrives in these comedic situations where he made to look like a fool, so don’t be fooled by his booking. Things are looking great for the man who just got spanked on national TV.
