Even outside of the main event picture, Kofi Kingston’s performance next to Big E at WWE TLC 2019 was incredible, as have most of Kofi’s performances this decade.

The main show of WWE TLC 2019 officially opened with The New Day defending their SmackDown Tag Team Championship against long time rivals The Revival. These two teams have tussled countless times in the past, but this time, the stakes were raised, as were the belts above their heads in a Ladder Match.

As with previous incredible matches from these four men, this Ladder Match was an incredible match, but above all else, it was Kofi Kingston who stood out the most.

Nothing against his partner Big E, or their opponents Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder. All four men offered some fantastic action in the ring, but it was hard not to keep our eyes off of Kofi Kingston.

We saw the former WWE Champion bounce off of ropes to drop DDTs, dive off of ladders, hit a memorable seesaw spot that needs to be seen to be believed, and a committed to bevy of other standout spots before pulling the titles down for a well deserved retain.

Ladder Matches have always been considered matches where Kofi shines (along with battle royals, of course), but his performance in this particular Ladder Match felt different in a certain context, especially when thinking about the decade he’s had as 2019 comes to a close.

The decade began with Kofi Kingston main eventing the first PPV of 2010 (the Royal Rumble match) as just another overlooked face in the crowd. In 2019, he opens the final WWE PPV of the decade off the heels of a year as WWE Champion.

Say what you will about where he should be on WWE’s totem pole or if he should be a main event singles star rather than going back to the tag team division, but it is nonetheless impressive when we notice that he still feels compelled to pull off fantastic performances like tonight no matter where he sits on the card or which division he’s in.

It’s incredible to think of where Kofi Kingston was at the beginning of this decade vs. where he is now. Not only has he lived an incredible journey and career thus far, but it is awe inspiring to see him still delivering such miraculous performances at age 38 with no signs of slowing down.

My colleague, Kevin Parvizi, recently argued for why Kofi Kingston may be the best WWE Superstar of the decade and after tonight, I feel compelled to agree with him.

Next. NWA could be a much needed change of pace for Marty Scurll. dark

2019 belonged to Kofi Kingston, the decade belonged to Kofi Kingston, and this opening match of WWE TLC 2019 shows that he still has it in him to steal the show whenever possible.
