This week’s stacked NXT will feature the much anticipated rematch between Rhea Ripley and Shayna Baszler for the WWE NXT Women’s Championship.

After a stint in NXT UK – highlighted by becoming the first Women’s Champion in the brand’s history – Rhea Ripley interrupted Shayna Baszler before she could even speak to challenge her dominance in WWE NXT, along with her lengthy title reign.

This led to a clash between the two on the Sept. 11 edition of NXT, where a chair shot to Shayna’s back earned the champion a DQ victory over “The Nightmare.”

Tensions between the NXT women’s roster over who deserved a title opportunity against Baszler eventually blew up in an all-out brawl, prompting General Manager William Regal to announce WarGames with Ripley and the champion as captains of their respective teams.

Multiple setbacks created by Dakota Kai put Team Ripley at a two on four disadvantage in WarGames. However, Ripley and teammate Candice LeRae managed to overcome said disadvantage to win WarGames.

With Ripley having pinned Baszler to pick up the victory at TakeOver: WarGames, she placed herself firmly in front of the line to face Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship. After brutally attacking Ripley, “The Submission Magician” made the challenge official for Dec. 18, this Wednesday.

Ripley and Baszler are arguably each other’s toughest challenges to date and after nearly four months, they will finally be facing off with the NXT Women’s Championship on the line. Baszler’s run has been remarkable but there are a few reasons why Wednesday night is the night that Ripley should be crowned as NXT Women’s Champion.
