WWE fans got a kick out of Dash Wilder tripping while making his entrance on the most recent episode of Friday Night SmackDown, and it’s rumored that this slip was part of a bigger plan for The Revival.

The New Day and The Revival kicked off WWE TLC 2019 with a bang last Sunday, as they had a killer ladder match to start the show. It was arguably one of the best matches of the night, as Kofi Kingston and Big E went all out to close their incredible 2019 as *still* your SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

Of course, Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson deserve credit for the performance, too, as The Revival have been one of the best tag teams in the world over the past few years. Dawson and Wilder’s no frills approach has helped give serious tag team wrestling a spotlight in WWE, though it’s not like Vince McMahon has done a whole lot to give them a spotlight on the main roster. And that was especially true earlier this year on Raw.

According to the Wrestling Observer News’ Dave Meltzer, via SEScoops.com’s Ian Carey, The Revival are about to become a comedy duo on Friday Night SmackDown. The whole incident where Wilder tripped on the last episode of the show was supposedly done on purpose and hints at the tag team becoming a spoof of 80’s teams.

It’s a, um, bold strategy. The Revival can absolutely pull this off, but news of them becoming a comedy duo probably won’t sit well with fans. I have a feeling WWE will try to strike the right balance between The Revival killing it in the ring, which is their usual, and adding light-hearted comedy to their act, but fans will rightfully be skeptical of all this.

dark. Next. Could The Revival face Harlem Heat at WrestleMania?

We’ll see how things develop for The Revival, who will hopefully have a major role on SmackDown heading into 2020 as an important part of the tag team division, which boasts the world’s best team in The New Day. As we’ve seen with The New Day, it’s possible for a team to be elite in the ring and hilarious outside of it.

Hopefully, though, The Revival also get a chance to mix the two and aren’t cast as only comedy guys. They are too good for that.
