WWE SmackDown: Results, Highlights and Grades for December 20th, 2019
Daniel Bryan and The Miz vs. Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler
Main event time!
Bryan and Miz argue about who’s going to start the match until they both brawl with Corbin and Ziggler. Miz clotheslines Corbin to the outside. Bryan hits his Yes! Kicks on Ziggler, until Miz tags himself in to hit his It! Kicks on Ziggler. The babyfaces have the upper hand before we go into the final break of the night.
Back from commercial, Miz makes a hot tag and Bryan immediately hits his comeback spot onto Corbin, until the latter eventually interrupts with a Deep Six.
Corbin tags in Ziggler, who rakes his ankle into Bryan’s eyes before raking his eyes against the ropes, then elbow dropping him. Bryan tries to fight back and tag to The Miz, but Ziggler forearms Miz off the apron.
Miz runs in, but as the ref gets him back on the apron, Corbin and Ziggler do some sneaky heel double teaming behind the ref’s back. Corbin tags to Ziggler before stomping out Bryan and teasing the Yes! chants.
Another tag to Ziggler, who kicks Bryan in the gut. Tag to Corbin again after some stomps. Punches and elbows from Corbin before he locks in a collarbone rest hold. He sets Bryan on the top rope, but Bryan punches at him to hit a missile dropkick.
Hot tag to both men, and Miz hits a flurry of kicks and corner clotheslines on Ziggler before big booting Corbin off the apron. DDT by Miz before a cover, but Corbin breaks it up. He hits Skull Crushing Finale on Corbin, which allows Zig to drop a big ole DDT for a two count.
He goes for a superkick, but Miz grabs the leg for a Figure Four. Bryan hits Corbin with a High Knee as Ziggler taps.
Before we go off the air, we not only hear The Fiend’s ominous laughter, but we learn Corbin vs. Bryan vs. Miz is official for next week on the final SmackDown of the year to decide who will face The Fiend at the Royal Rumble.
Winners: Miz/Bryan
Grade: B
Very, very, very good tag match.
Overall Grade: C+
Kind of felt like a filler holiday show, for the most part. Which, I guess it was. It had its high points, but it felt like things were being held back (both in writing and in wrestling) as if everyone involved on all cylinders were weary of producing too many big/good moments, in favor of saving things for a bigger show.
And that kind of mentality hurt the show in some areas.
