#3 – Adam Cole wins NXT Championship at NXT Takeover

There was disappointment when the news broke that, due to injuries, Tommaso Ciampa had to relinquish the NXT Championship. The feud between Ciampa and Johnny Gargano became one of the best rivalries in NXT’s history. In the ashes of that announcement was the news that Adam Cole would face Johnny Gargano for the NXT Championship.

Cole faced Gargano for the NXT Championship at NXT Takeover XXV. It was a match that redefined NXT in 2019. Both men took fans on a ride that fans didn’t want to end, but were on the edge of their seat to see who the winner would be.

It could be argued that their match at this Takeover was the best of their feud. Cole defeated Gargano to become the NXT Championship and the crowd erupted for Cole.

This was the crowning moment for Cole, who had been seen as the next main eventer on a roster full of incredible wrestlers. The two would go on to have another classic rematch at NXT Toronto where Cole would be victorious again.

As champion Cole has enhanced the stature of a very credible NXT Championship. His run provided fans with countless memorable matches and set the bar for the future of NXT. None of that would have happened if he didn’t win the NXT Championship from Johnny Gargano.

The moment where his hand was raised at the end of their match is something that fans won’t forget soon.
