Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar – No Way Out 2004

Eddie Guerrero was one of those wrestlers who was never pegged as “the guy” in any wrestling promotion, especially in WWE. Whether the reason was because he did not have the right look or because he didn’t perfectly fit in WWE’s crop of main eventers or he was too small, etc., the fact remains that Mr. Latino Heat was never supposed to be the guy.

But the fans made him into that guy. They rallied behind Guerrero to the point that WWE could not deny his connection with the WWE Universe. So they strapped their marquee championship onto him.

What makes his WWE Championship win all the more special is knowing that he did so by beating Brock Lesnar, the very definition of WWE’s guy. He was literally dubbed The Next Big Thing from the moment he debuted on television.

The match itself reflected how Guerrero was out of his element in every way possible. Outmatched in size, star power, public perception of who’s on the totem pole, etc. And yet, he was able to come out on top despite it all. If that’s not an inspiring feat, I don’t know what is.
