WWE superstar Randy Orton has suffered a knee injury at a recent live event ahead of the Dec. 30 episode of Monday Night Raw.

Randy Orton has been a major player on WWE Raw since joining the brand at the recent WWE Draft, and he’s been feuding with former United States Champion AJ Styles. The two veteran wrestlers are key parts of the show’s main event scene, especially with part-time WWE Champion Brock Lesnar not wrestling much until the final build towards the Royal Rumble.

The Viper has went down with an injury at a Dec. 29 live event in Hershey, Pennsylvania, per tweets from fans in attendance.

It appears Orton suffered a knee injury during a match with Styles, who has been his main rival since The Viper hit him with an RKO in the build to TLC. Orton also cost Styles the United States Championship, which is the top male title on Raw right now when Lesnar isn’t around, by interfering to enable Rey Mysterio to win. Mysterio is the current champion and is feuding with Seth Rollins.

All eyes will be peeled on Orton’s injury status going forward. Knee injuries are never anything to play with, and this could be an especially tough blow for Orton, who has become more and more cautious about his health as an experienced performer. Orton is known for his extensive stretching routine for his shoulders, given his earlier shoulder issues.

Hopefully, this injury is only a minor one for the 39-year-old. It’s awful to see any athlete suffer any injury, but, again, severe knee injury are a nightmare scenario.

Since he recently went down with something, it may be best for WWE to hold him out of Raw on Dec. 30 as a precaution, even if it is minor.

Even assuming this is a legitimate injury since it occurred only minutes into the match, WWE will surely use this to further the heat between Orton and Styles. Now, Orton is the babyface, which is a twist from their previous feud when Orton was the heel hating on “indy guys”, referencing Styles’ career outside WWE before signing in 2016.

Orton has been rumored as a possible Royal Rumble opponent for Brock Lesnar.
