AEW Dynamite: Results, Highlights, and Grades for Jan 1st, 2020
By Paul Bradley
A recap of the Dark Order’s attack from last week is shown as Evil Uno cuts a promo stating that what happened was “wonderful”.
Jon Moxley (0-0 in singles action) vs Trent (0-0 in singles action)
The two lock up as Moxley gains control right off the bat. Moxley gains wrist control and takes Trent to the ground. Trent looks to match him hold for hold. Trent delivers a scathing slap but that just makes Mox angry as he starts chopping his opponent. Trent comes back with chops and a jumping meteora. Trent continues with chops but Moxley comes back with a nasty elbow strike. Mox then throughs Trent onto the ropes and gets back in the ring as the show goes to break.
Back from break, Trent is on the floor being beaten down by Mox. Trent gets thrown into the barricade but comes back with a massive spear. Trent hits a nasty half-and-half suplex on Mox and then nails a dive over the top rope onto his downed opponent.
Trent is in control as he hits a satellite DDT in the corner. Moxley is still alive and hits a running knee and plants Trent on his face for a close two count. Mox goes for a powerbomb but gets rolled up. Mox then hits a nasty lariat and Trent hits one of his own.
Orange Cassidy finds his way into the ring and stares off Moxley. Mox puts his own hands in his pockets to mock Cassidy which allows Trent to hit a knee strike and a piledriver for a close two count. Moxley then blocks a dive from Trent and hits a Dirty Deeds on the ramp. Moxley then hits a nasty Paradigm Shift to finish off Trent.
Result: Jon Moxley (1-0 in 2020)
Rating: *** 3/4 ( 3.75 stars)
Out comes Sammy Guevara from the crowd with a mic. Guevara steals food and drinks from the fans as he slinks his way down to the ring. Moxley looks mad but Guevara states he’s not here to fight and The Inner Circle has a surprise for him. Jericho is shown on the screen. Jericho builds up Moxley and reiterates his desire for Mox to join him. Jericho states that Moxley would be an equal partner to him (49% control of the group). Jericho even offers Moxley a new Ford GT as an incentive. “All you have to do is say yes”.
Moxley then states that Jericho has been a friend and a mentor of his and he will give him his answer next week.
A fun match that made Trent look better than he ever has in AEW. The segment after was a little rough and seemed out of place but without Jericho AEW needed to extend this storyline out until “Le Champion” was back.
