Changing It Up

I love the Royal Rumble; I look forward it every year, and I truly enjoy watching the overarching story of the match unfold, along with little stories told within. It’s fun, exciting, great action, and always full of surprises.

With that said, it’s been a long while since the concept has been changed up a bit. Every so often, the WWE likes to add a plot twist to this pay-per-view (PPV) and match, and I welcome that idea.

The top championship has been on the line before, back in 2016 when HHH grabbed the win and title during a time where Roman Reigns was forced to put his championship on the line at the grand event, and then way back in 1992 when “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair scored the win and championship when the title was vacant.

Still, I can’t remember an instance when a champion has entered the match, requesting the No. 1 spot at that. The title is clearly not on the line, so my senses are tingling that this will mean something that much more after the Royal Rumble is said and done. Perhaps if Brock wins, he gets to choose his opponent; perhaps he chooses a stipulation, too.

Regardless, with Lesnar throwing his hat in the ring, Creative is clearly changing the game with the Royal Rumble, and to me, all arrows are point around the idea that if Brock wins, this shall alter the stakes around WrestleMania and his WWE title match. It won’t be the same old/same old winner of the Royal Rumble chooses the champion of his choice, especially if a champion takes the match.
