WWE seems to have a great deal of interest in Jay White

Although Jay White has shown no interest in WWE, that hasn’t stop the company from dreaming of signing one of wrestling’s best heels.

Jay White is a former IWGP United States Champion, Intercontinental Champion, and Heavyweight Champion. The NJPW star recently dropped the Intercontinental Title to Tetsuya Naito at Wrestle Kingdom 14 prior to Naito’s coronation as the double-champ following a main event victory over Kazuchika Okada on Night 2.

While Wrestle Kingdom 14 was all about Naito – and then KENTA – White still found a way to shine, reminding the wrestling world why he’s one of the absolute best heels in the world. And White’s performances certainly haven’t escaped WWE’s attention.

Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue recently reported that a WWE official told him the company views White as a “perfect” heel for the company. Another source within the company told Colohue it’s “only a matter of time” before WWE send a formal offer to White in order to coax him away from NJPW.

Colohue had more to say about WWE’s high interest in White on the latest episode of Dropkick DiSKussions, via Lennard Surrao of Sportskeeda Wrestling.

He stated that White is “definitely popular within WWE” and that the company has been contemplating offering him a deal for a “long time”.

Furthermore, even wrestlers are “desperate” to work with White, and “a lot of people” in the company want to “stir that pot” to get a deal done.

Nobody should be surprised that WWE are so high on White.

They always want to sign the best wrestlers on the planet to stack up their roster, improve their product, and get more eyes on their shows.

White would be a perfect fit for any wrestling company with his odious heel work, ability to tell the right stories in the ring, and charisma as a champion.

But White has made it clear that he isn’t interested in WWE’s brand of wrestling, which he called “entertainment TV stuff” (fair) in a past interview with Talk is Jericho.

If WWE can offer the right package, perhaps they could do enough to pique White’s interest. And by “package”, more than money would be at play here. White would probably need assurances about how his character would be used and how he’d be positioned in programming, since, at NJPW, he is a top star who is getting a chance to play to his strengths.

It’s remarkable looking back at what White has accomplished in wrestling since his Intercontinental Title match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 against Hiroshi Tanahashi. He has certainly blossomed into the type of wrestler that WWE should be desperate to pry away.
