1. The Fiend needs a signature win

Bray Wyatt beat a high-quality opponent to win the Universal Championship at Crown Jewel in Seth Rollins, and he already beat Daniel Bryan once at Survivor Series. But the problem is that nobody gave a damn about either of those two matches.

First of all, what happens at a Crown Jewel Pay Per View stays at a Crown Jewel Pay Per View. These shows are glorified house shows – not actual Pay Per Views – that most wrestling fans tune out of. The cards are filled with over-the-hill wrestlers embarrassing themselves, so few people paid attention to Wyatt vs. Rollins. They just heard the news The Fiend won, said “cool”, and went on to fantasy booking Survivor Series.

Meanwhile, Wyatt vs. Bryan was a mere footnote at Survivor Series. The match itself was bland, nobody cares about it looking back, and the show was all about NXT (specifically Rhea Ripley and Keith Lee).

Wyatt’s title could easily get overshadowed again at WWE Royal Rumble 2020 because of two Rumble matches and a sure-fire Match of the Night between Asuka and actual top star Becky Lynch. The Fiend needs to show that not only can he make people care when the lights go out, but that he can also put on a great match with one of the GOATs.

So Wyatt must win and must do so in impressive fashion. If he loses, he’ll have finished with one of the most nondescript world title reigns in recent memory. And if he beats Bryan but doesn’t perform well, people will start to wonder if The Fiend’s title matches are worth tuning into.
