Chris Jericho

After Jon Moxley rejected Chris Jericho’s invitation to join the Inner Circle as a 51/49 partner and smashed “Le Champion” over the head with a wine bottle a week prior, you knew Jericho and his goons were due for some payback. And that’s exactly what they did on this week’s Dynamite.

Once Moxley took care of Sammy Guevara via a sleeper hold, Fozzy’s “Judas” blared throughout the Watsco Center, which is usually followed by Jericho sauntering down to the ring.

But this time, the arena went dark and when the lights came back on, Jericho, Proud & Powerful, and Jake Hager were standing face-to-face with Moxley and subsequently beat him down, with Jericho punctuating the attack by stabbing Mox in the eye with a spike that he unscrewed from his leather jacket.

Now, if you wanted to nitpick about AEW booking an angle like this four weeks after having Brandi Rhodes use a similar tactic on Kris Statlander, but this was a much better use of the plot device in what is a far superior storyline.

It had been a while since Jericho had gotten a legitimate heat segment, so this was the right time to reassert him as the promotion’s top heel and the Inner Circle as a credible heel faction.
