WWE Royal Rumble 2020: Predicting All 30 Entrants In The Men’s Royal Rumble
By Mark Justice
Winner: Kevin Owens
The rumored winners and top betting odd favorites for the Men’s Royal Rumble are: Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez, Drew McIntyre, and Kevin Owens. Before explaining why Kevin Owens should win the Rumble, here’s why the other four should not.
Roman Reigns should not win the Rumble because he should not have a one-on-one Universal Championship match with Bray Wyatt. Instead, he should be in a triple threat Universal Championship match with Bray Wyatt and Daniel Bryan since Bryan is also an essential part of Wyatt’s storyline on the road to WrestleMania 36. Since the Royal Rumble winner is usually guaranteed a one-on-one championship match, Reigns should not win the Rumble so that a triple threat Universal Championship match amongst them is permissible.
Brock Lesnar should not win the Rumble because he is the WWE Champion. It would be quite peculiar to see Lesnar challenge himself or Universal Champion Bray Wyatt. Such a result would throw the entire main roster into a limbo because it would leave many main event superstars without a main card championship match at WrestleMania 36.
Cain Velasquez should not win the Rumble because he is never present and has not been built up as a top star in the WWE despite his MMA success. Henceforth, it would be too early to reward him with such a critical victory. Nonetheless, his rivalry with Lesnar speaks volumes and he should be considered as one of the superstars who should eliminate Lesnar from the Royal Rumble.
Drew McIntyre should not win the Rumble because he is not a main event superstar. Based on his proficient attributes, McIntyre evidently deserves to be a main event superstar. However, based on his recent booking, it is not sensible to consider him a main event superstar. McIntyre is actually being booked like a mid card superstar. For instance, after SmackDown moved to Fox and the new draft occurred in October 2019, McIntyre has never main evented Raw.
If a superstar has not main evented Raw on a consistent basis, he is not being booked like a main event superstar. There is no way he should be considered the Royal Rumble Winner and slayer of Brock Lesnar after defeating jobbers (i.e. Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, Akira Tozawa, etc.) for weeks on end. Many naysayers may argue that his recent babyface turn is a sign of a push for the heel Brock Lesnar’s WWE Championship, but it will take some time for the crowd to get on his side wholeheartedly.
Meanwhile, Kevin Owens has been main eventing Raw’s against Seth Rollins in a very heated rivalry that had been sparked since the Town Hall Meeting post-Survivor Series. On top of that, Owens had a very serious promo with Triple H during the brand war that assimilated to Triple’s promo with Seth Rollins before he won the Rumble last year. From a booking standpoint, Owens has clearly been built as a main event superstar. He should win the Royal Rumble match and challenge for the WWE Championship, the championship that had eluded his entire career.
Hopefully, the WWE Champion he battles at WrestleMania 36 is his main rival, Seth Rollins, if Lesnar were to lose the championship in the Elimination Chamber PPV in February. Why? Because a consistently told rivalry that main events Raw every week should be the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 36, and that rivalry is: Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens. These two will never stop fighting until the fight is done, and the fight is far from over.
