WWE Raw: Results, Highlights, and Grades: January 20, 2020

Andrade (c) (w/Zelina Vega) vs. Rey Mysterio [United States Championship Match]

As soon as the bell rings, Rey Mysterio drop kicks Andrade outside the ring and attempts the Meteora but Andrade catches Mysterio and slams him into the barricade. Andrade sends Mysterio back into the ring, grabs a ladder, and plants it in the middle of the ring.

Andrade lifts Mysterio onto the top rope to attempt a Superplex, but Mysterio counters with Hurricanrana to Andrade onto the ladder. Andrade dropped right on his neck at the edge of the ladder. That’s gonna hurt in the morning. The show goes to commerical.

Back from commercial, Mysterio delivers a Flying Meteora from the top of the steel post to Andrade outside the ring. Caution to the wind. Mysterio sends Andrade back to the ring and rallies with a Meteora and a Hurricanrana to Andrade into the ladder propped at the corner turnbuckle.

Mysterio sets up the ladder and climbs the ladder to retrieve the United States Championship but Andrade stops and delivers three Amigo Eddie Guerrero suplexes, with the third one landing on a ladder. Mysterio rallies back with a flurry of punches to Andrade on the top rope but Andrade counters Mysterio’s Hurricanrana’s attempt and delivers an Avalanche powerbomb to Mysterio on the wedged ladder inside the ring. The show goes to commercial again.

Back from commercial, Mysterio delivers a Headscissors Takedown to Andrade and climbs the ladder. Andrae stops him and attempts to drop Mysterio on the wedged ladder but Mysterio counters and delivers a Sunset Flip Powerbomb on the wedged ladder.

He then dropkicks Andrade in the back and dials Andrade up for the 619! He hits it and climbs the ladder to grab the championship. He has his the title in his hands, but Andrade moves the ladder to stop Mysterio from unhooking the championship.

As Mysterio dangles with the championship, Andrade grabs Mysterio to deliver a Powerbomb but Mysterio counters with a Headscissors Takedown. Mysterio climbs the ladder once again to grab the championship but Zelina Vega saves the day and stops Mysterio from climbing any further.

This gives Andrade an opportunity to deliver an incredible Hammerlock DDT to Mysterio on the wedged ladder and climb the ladder to retrieve the United States Championship. Andrade retains the United States Championship.

Zelina Vega rips off the mat outside the ring and introduces Andrade to deliver a Hammerlock DDT to Mysterio on the concrete pavement. Before he could do so, Humberto Carillo returns with a Mysterio mask on to save Mysterio from his same fate.

Result: Andrade

Grade: 3.5/5.0 Stars

Analysis: The ladder match was an awesome spot fest. There were some moments that felt forced but they didn’t take away too much from the quality of the match. Humberto Carillo’s return occurred just as expected with Rey Mysterio’s mask on as an added touch. It is nice to know that WWE did not forget about him. It will be interesting to see if he challenges Andrade for the United States Championship at WWE Royal Rumble 2020. An MLK promo package is then played once the show comes back from commercial. Aleister Black comes out to the ring for his next challenge.

Aleister Black vs. Jobber [Grudge Match]

Aleister Black delivers the Black Mass to the jobber for the three count and the victory. What a match! WOW! 5-star material, eh?

Grade: 1.5/5.0 Stars

Analysis: Good thing that match ended in record time because there’s no need to sit through a match with a predictable outcome, such as this one. Black looks ready to eliminate superstars at this year’s Royal Rumble.
