Report: Brock Lesnar, Matt Riddle got into a ‘verbal altercation’ at Rumble
Matt Riddle has never shied away from speaking his mind on social media about WWE legends like Brock Lesnar and Goldberg, and The Beast decided to see “what’s up” with the King of Bros backstage at the Royal Rumble Pay Per View.
Brock Lesnar announced himself as the No. 1 entrant in the 2020 Royal Rumble, asserting that nobody on the WWE roster could measure up to him in a singles match. But before the match even took place in Houston, Lesnar made headlines for a different reason.
According to sources close to Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin, Matt Riddle and Lesnar got into what was termed as a “verbal altercation” backstage before the Rumble Pay Per View began. Satin’s sources stressed that nothing physical happened between the two.
Riddle previously had a terse moment with Goldberg at SummerSlam last year, as he has sent some quite sharp jabs at Goldberg, whom he doesn’t respect in the ring.
As for Lesnar, the situation is a little bit different. It doesn’t seem like Riddle has ever actually insulted the former UFC Champion, but he has made it clear that he has designs on retiring The Beast, preferably at WrestleMania. He even tweeted about it last year.
Wrestling fans would surely love to see it happen. But Lesnar? It seems like he’s less than amused. Per Satin’s report, Lesnar wanted to find out the “reality of the situation” between the two men, and the interaction was described as “tense”. But again, things reportedly never got physical. Apparently this was the first time Riddle and Lesnar met face to face.
It’s easy to blow something like this out of proportion. Riddle’s said some things about Lesnar, Lesnar wanted to know if Matt Riddle actually had a problem with him, and things aren’t always all happy in these cases. But nobody threw hands, nothing blew up, and hopefully both MMA/wrestling stars are able to move on from this in a positive way.
…And maybe even build to a dream match in a couple of years. Because yeah, seeing Riddle retire Lesnar would be quite the story.
