Drew McIntyre may have won the 2020 Royal Rumble match and eliminated current WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in the process, but Vince McMahon still reportedly wants Roman Reigns to main event the Show of Shows in Tampa Bay.

The 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match was all about Drew McIntyre, who produced the performance of a lifetime and is now a made man in WWE. McIntyre didn’t just eliminate Brock Lesnar by Claymoring him straight over the top rope after The Beast had an unprecedented run of dominance to start the match, but he also outlasted the likes of previous winners Randy Orton and Roman Reigns. He even threw over Reigns – his WrestleMania 35 opponent – in the final two.

However, McIntyre’s place in the WrestleMania main event still isn’t guaranteed. Roman Reigns was the heavy favorite to win the match and reportedly the originally scheduled winner, so he still has a chance at main eventing another ‘Mania.

According to sources close to Sportskeeda’s ace reporter Tom Colohue, Paul Heyman is “campaigning heavily” for McIntyre to main event the show. Heyman is reportedly quite high on McIntyre.

However, Colohue reports that Vince McMahon still prefers Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt to main event in a Universal Title match. Reports in December made it seem like Reigns vs. Wyatt has long been Vince’s plan.

Either match would be worthy of the main event slot. The Fiend was the hottest commodity in WWE’s Men’s Division in the Fall, and he has only cooled off slightly, recently producing his best title match yet at the Royal Rumble against Daniel Bryan. Reigns has his own redemption story after relinquishing the Universal Title due to leukemia, and he is the biggest star of the four men who could main event the show.

But McIntyre vs. Lesnar is an opportunity to build a new superstar, even if McIntyre ends up losing and not sending the fans home happy in the show’s main event. WWE could see putting McIntyre in the main event as a necessary follow-up after his star-making Rumble win, and McIntyre vs. Lesnar could prove to be the hotter rivalry.

Next. The Shield and the Ghost of Dean Ambrose. dark

Consider this a fluid situation, but it is interesting to note reported disagreement between Vince and Paul. It goes to show you how many interesting feuds are brewing for what should be another memorable WrestleMania.
