WWE Raw matches ranked from worst to best: Ricochet rules, Garza debuts
4. Angel Garza vs. Rey Mysterio
In place of a suspended Andrade, Zelina Vega acquired the services of Humberto Carrillo’s cousin, former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Angel Garza, to enact revenge on Humberto for “injuring” the United States Champion.
Humberto, in turn and unknowingly, acquired the services of Rey Mysterio to enact revenge on Vega for enacting revenge onto him for enacting revenge on Andrade for injuring him last month. Because revenge.
Anyway, this sprouted a match and not just any match either: a dream match that not even you knew you dreamed about.
While it wasn’t exactly the dreamiest of contests and it didn’t blow the roof off the place (certainly not after that DQ finish), it was a fine introduction of Garza to the mainstream Raw audience that kept him looking strong from the moment he came out until he left Mysterio laid out.
3. Natalya vs. Asuka
And here, folks, we have our first truly great match of the night.
You are never going to see me or anyone complain about seeing Natalya vs. Asuka. Was there a story here? No. Any stakes to speak of? No. Was there anything here beyond just a means for Asuka to pick momentum back up after losing to Becky Lynch at the Rumble? No, but that’s okay.
Natalya and Asuka are two of the very best technical wrestlers that any brand on the WWE roster could possibly offer. As history has proven, you put them in the ring together, and they will deliver an in-ring technical masterclass on any given night. Tonight was no different.
Ultimately, Natalya tapped out right before Becky Lynch challenged Asuka to a rubber match tie-breaker for next week’s Raw. Overall, great stuff on all cylinders.
