WWE: 3 reasons why we need to see Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley in 2020
3. A fight fit for SummerSlam
Since Brock Lesnar has faced so many top stars on the roster, there aren’t as many believable feuds for him left in 2020 if he doesn’t have a continuous program with Royal Rumble winner Drew McIntyre. AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and others are all out of the equation, whereas up-and-coming stars like Matt Riddle, Keith Lee, and The Velveteen Dream feel more like potential 2021 (in Riddle’s case, even beyond that) rivalries.
It’s never too early to start thinking about SummerSlam. Lesnar is already booked for WrestleMania 36 with a match against McIntyre, and that could main event the show, depending on what happens with Roman Reigns, The Fiend, and, now, Goldberg. Although Lesnar vs. McIntyre could be a SummerSlam match like Lesnar vs. Reigns and Lesnar vs. Rollins were follow ups from WrestleMania, it’d be best to see something more exciting. Reigns vs. Lesnar was excellent since Reigns finally won the Universal Title, but the second Rollins vs. Lesnar match was a less meaningful win.
Lashley vs. Lesnar is exactly the type of fresh, big-fight match that fits on a SummerSlam card. Wrestling fans know that SummerSlam is where the quality is at, and Lesnar vs. Lashley could be a fast-paced, hard-hitting match of a different variety from the more high-flying and technical matches the current crop of superstars will put on at the show.
SummerSlam needs one or two matches each year that are a spectacle, and there are few things more spectacular than watching two legendary wrestlers and elite athletes battle it out in the ring, even if the title isn’t on the line. Lashley and Lesnar can move the meter without a title, and, again, it’s hard seeing a bigger match for Lesnar by the time SummerSlam rolls around.
