With Elias, it’s about the segments

What makes Elias special in WWE isn’t the matches themselves. While he’s become a quality wrestler and has improved significantly since he first came up from NXT as an unknown commodity, people don’t tune in to watch Elias win random matches on SmackDown. They tune in for his charisma, quick wit, and ability to engage them as either a heel or, currently, a babyface.

Last year, Elias’ segment with John Cena at WrestleMania was well-received because it showcased his charisma. And the year before, Elias delivered his memorable “WWE stands for Walk With Elias” line to Cena, which helped put him on the track to stardom.

So as far as Elias is concerned, the best way to have him work with Cena is to have the two interact in the build to WrestleMania in fun segments. They can build to a match at the Show of Shows, but they don’t necessarily have to stuff it on the card if there isn’t a larger purpose to the bout.

Have Elias and Cena interact on WWE television several time whenever Cena’s schedule allows it. Build it organically towards something, and, if enough people are behind Elias, set something up over the long-term for SummerSlam. But don’t rush things here. Let the segments speak for themselves and build up Elias, instead of having him lose too quickly on a crowded ‘Mania card. Allow Elias’ charisma to shine.
