AEW: 5 women All Elite Wrestling should sign in 2020
4. Jazz
There are two people who still boggle my mind how AEW failed to snatch up while both were right under their noses: Mercedes Martinez and Jazz.
Both Martinez and Jazz competed in the Buy-In pre-show’s Casino Battle Royale on All Out. Many speculated that both were AEW bound, but Martinez ended up signing with WWE, while according to Jazz herself in an interview with Women’s Wrestling Weekly, there were “no discussions” regarding signing a contract, implying such one was not even offered to her.
All Elite Wrestling should not let Jazz slip through their fingers, especially since she’s nearing the end of her career, so there’s a timetable here. She’s already not wrestled since November (unclear if she’s just taken a break or if she has, in fact, quietly retired).
Also, in that aforementioned linked interview, Jazz made sure to acknowledge that she was nearing the end of her career. However, she also mentioned that she’d be willing to sign a contract anywhere only if it was for a coaching position rather than a wrestling role.
What boggles me about AEW not signing Martinez or Jazz is that as veterans of the sport who can still go in the ring, both could have served as a mentor and coach to the women’s locker room. The men’s division has a few wrestlers who fit that role like Billy Gunn and Dustin Rhodes, but no such role exists for the women. Jazz would fit that role to a tee.
