Jeff Cobb

AEW had quite a task ahead of itself when the bookers scheduled Jeff Cobb vs. Jon Moxley — a rematch from their G1 Climax tilt last summer — for this week’s show. With Moxley slated to face Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship at Revolution, he obviously couldn’t eat a clean loss, but they also didn’t want to position the former Ring of Honor and Lucha Underground standout as an ineffective geek in his debut outing.

If this match took place on RAW or SmackDown, the match would’ve probably ended with some sort of non-finish to “protect both guys”, but on Dynamite, we got a competitive match that saw Cobb showcase his power and agility and had Moxley fight from underneath that ended with Mox cradling the former Olympian following a Cobb superplex for the win.

While only one person got their hand raised, both men came out of the match looking great: Moxley picks up the needed victory ahead of his match with Jericho — while also coming across as a resourceful contender who can withstand heavy punishment and find a way to win — and Cobb loses nothing since he dominated most of the match only to fall short in a fluky manner.
