WWE NXT: Why you should pull for Bianca Belair to upset Charlotte Flair
On the Feb. 26 episode of WWE NXT, Bianca Belair will face Charlotte Flair, and the implications of winning couldn’t be any higher for the EST.
Bianca Belair has had the rug pulled out from underneath her multiple times on WWE NXT despite being one of the brand’s best overall performers. She lost to Shayna Baszler at TakeOver: Phoenix last year and then in a Fatal Four-Way over WrestleMania weekend.
And earlier this month, she fell to Rhea Ripley despite the fact that Ripley was blatantly overlooking her after being challenged by Women’s Rumble winner Charlotte Flair.
Last year, Belair’s losses to Baszler left fans puzzled and upset, especially since they came amidst flagrantly line-crossing comments from commentator Sam Roberts, who wondered if Belair was “good enough” to win the title. To anyone who has watched Belair since the 2017 Mae Young Classic, it’s abundantly clear that she IS good enough to lead the NXT Women’s Division.

So Belair’s loss in Portland was even more demoralizing for fans of the EST, who have heard Belair receive praise from all corners of the wrestling world as a future top star. Included among those is none other than Charlotte Flair, who is set to face Ripley at WrestleMania 36 in what should be a star-making match for the NXT brand as a whole.
However, Belair’s chances of being a part of that historic bout for the Black and Gold brand are still alive. Because WWE has announced that on Wednesday, Feb. 26, Charlotte will be back on NXT television. Except this time she’ll be in the ring, facing off against the woman she’s so profusely praised in the past.
If Charlotte wins, we’ll move forward with the Ripley vs. Flair feud, and it’ll be fantastic. Belair and Flair will get to tear down the house on Wednesday night, and Belair will get the rub of putting on a great match with Charlotte. Yet we will be left asking those same questions about Belair losing, in addition to this critical question: Could this feud be so much more with Belair?
And the answer is a resounding “yes”. Watch any segment involving Belair. She steals the show. She doesn’t just HAVE “it”. She GETS “it”. Whether it’s lines like “You don’t even go here!” or her reactions to Charlotte and Rhea facing off, Belair knows how to get reactions from the audience.
Ripley vs. Flair would be an absolutely bad-ass title match at the Show of Shows. But if Belair defeats Charlotte on NXT TV this Wednesday, everything breaks open. Ripely, Belair, and Flair all have reasons to dislike each other, and all three are talented, driven competitors who rank among WWE’s best athletes.
In most cases, we want WrestleMania title matches to be singles matches, especially if they are for the world title. Plus, since women’s matches used to rarely be singles bouts, many fans dislike the idea of a Triple Threat.
However, Belair vs. Flair vs. Ripley wouldn’t be a Triple Threat for a Triple Threat’s sake. Adding Belair to the match would give the bout more star power, more intrigue around the build, and a richer story with the EST looking to score her first truly big win on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Better yet, Belair defeating Charlotte on NXT TV would be worth a massive pop. Seriously, don’t complain about getting a match between two of WWE’s best for FREE, because it’s not a bad thing. Plus, if Belair wins, it’ll be a moment to talk about for years and years to come, in addition to setting in motion a potentially bigger moment to dissect at WrestleMania 36.
So make sure to watch Wednesday’s match and bring ALL your snacks in front of the screen. At the risk of getting my hopes up for nothing again, it feels like there’s something special in the air.
