2. Elias

Okay, this is the last time I’ll ask you to flashback to another Mania, I promise. Well, technically, I’m asking you to think back to last year’s night after WrestleMania on Raw rather than Mania itself.

We all recall The Undertaker not getting a match at Mania for the first time in 19 years, but neither did Elias. Whereas Taker did not show up to Mania at all, Elias had a promo segment with John Cena, before getting chokeslammed by The Deadman the next night.

The history is there to warrant a Mania match, if WWE was looking for the loosest of loose connections that they could make from the past to justify a feud between WWE’s past and the company’s present.

Does anyone want to see Elias vs. John Cena? No, not really. At least I doubt that most fans or even you, readers, would be interested in a match like this, but in imagining realistic opponents, this one springs to mind.

The only things holding it back from happening is that Elias is already rumored to wrestle Cena (the idea being people think Elias gets “a rub” by losing to Cena at Mania, which would be the same thinking of Elias vs. Taker) or because nobody backstage wants to see this either. We’ll see what happens.
