WWE: Natalya and Beth Phoenix could really win the tag titles at WrestleMania 36
Kairi Sane and Asuka’s WWE WrestleMania 36 plans are completely up in the air, but it sounds like Beth Phoenix and Natalya could be a real challenge for them at the Show of Shows.
Last year at WrestleMania 35, Beth Phoenix and Natalya teamed up to take on the Boss’N’Hug Connection (Sasha Banks and Bayley), Nia Jax and Tamina, and eventual winners the IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) in the first Women’s Tag Title match at WWE‘s Show of Shows.
Nattie and Beth came up short, but fans thoroughly enjoyed the pair reunite as a tag team with tag titles to compete for. Their styles mesh so well in the ring, their personalties work perfectly outside the ring, and it’s high time we saw them compete in the ring together.
There have been whispers among fans of Natalya and Phoenix potentially working together again on the road to WrestleMania 36, and, now, there’s a rumor hinting at them getting a major ‘Mania match.

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer News’ Dave Meltzer, via Fightful.com’s Carlos Toro, Kairi Sane and Asuka could defend the Women’s Tag Titles against “The Divas of Doom” at WrestleMania. Per Meltzer, this match is listed on the “skeleton card” for ‘Mania, as he previously reported that six women’s matches could happen at the Show of Shows.
Although a multi-woman tag match is a possibility, with Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross then being among the favorites to win the championships for a second time after initially dropping the belts to the Kabuki Warriors at Hell in a Cell, WWE will probably want to go in a different direction from 2019’s Fatal Four-Way tag title match.
Sane and Asuka have done an excellent job as tag team champions whenever they’ve been on television or asked to defend the titles. But Asuka has been more involved in the Raw Women’s Title picture lately, having feuded with Becky Lynch at the Royal Rumble after the TLC main event for the tag titles. Sane’s injury has complicated things for the tag team, but it is noteworthy that The Empress of Tomorrow is in the Elimination Chamber match to determine Becky’s opponent at WrestleMania whereas The Pirate Princess won’t be involved.
The Kabuki Warriors should absolutely defend the tag titles at the Show of Shows, and The Divas of Doom could be great opponents for Sane and Asuka. However, if Natalya and Phoenix win, there will be a wide range of reactions. Some will love the feel-good moment and will be ecstatic to see the veteran wrestlers work with other stars on the roster, whereas others will dislike that the Kabuki Warriors’ lengthy reign ended at their hands.
Regardless, I think there’s a high chance we see Phoenix and Natalya win the titles at WrestleMania 36 to pop the crowd before eventually dropping them to a full-time tag team, such as the IIconics. Then again, maybe we shouldn’t completely rule out Phoenix from returning to wrestling on a full-time basis as a champion, even if she’s been wonderful on commentary.
