Why Goldberg winning the WWE Universal Championship was a smart call

Goldberg winning the WWE Universal Championship has gotten a lot of heat, but contrary to popular belief, it is not the worst thing to happen in the history of happenings, nor is it the end of the world for Bray Wyatt’s character.

I know, I know. I know. Controversial opinion. I gather that as it’s been five days since Goldberg won the WWE Universal Championship and social media is still set ablaze with fired up, angry people on the internet. I get it, but I also disagree with why they all seem so mad.

Let’s break down why this isn’t such a big deal, at least by looking at specific reasons the average detractor of this reason has been pulling out.

One reason has been that it cools down The Fiend, which is false. If the reaction to The Fiend’s WrestleMania challenge to John Cena on last week’s SmackDown is any indicator, Bray Wyatt is still as over as ever whether he loses or not.

By the same sword, people have complained because they think The Fiend’s undefeated streak ending to a part timer is the wrong move. Again, not that wrong. The whole point of an undefeated streak is so that whoever beats an undefeated person becomes over from the win.

Which, in theory, this could’ve done wonders for a younger, more regular talent, but it’s a flawed thinking when we consider how much we all love The Fiend. No matter who beat The Fiend (especially if it was Roman Reigns), we were all going to boo him.

Since the guy who beat The Fiend happened to be a part timer and we all get the impression that he’s “stealing” a spot from a younger, more original talent, we hate Goldberg even more. So, in theory, perhaps Goldberg could use that heat to get a divisive Reigns over during his Mania coronation.

And since most of us are calling for Reigns to win just to get the top belt off of a part timer, it is already working.

That’s the main thing that makes this decision so smart.

A lot of us who’d be booing the prospect for Reigns winning another belt are begging for it just because we dislike the fact Goldberg has it and we dislike the fact Goldberg beat The Fiend for it. Speaking of, meanwhile, The Fiend still gets his own money match and potential win at WrestleMania while Reigns is destined to win his to a standing ovation. Everyone wins.
