10. In The Beginning …

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the very first women’s wrestling match took place; however, WWE Hall of Famer and beloved superstar Mae Young is considered to be one of the pioneers who paved the way for women’s wrestling.

She performed throughout Canada and the United States, won championships multiple times over with the National Wrestling Alliance, creating a true stir around women’s wrestling during World War II and the throughout the ‘40s.

In the mid-50s, she was one of the first, along with Mildred Burke, female wrestlers to tour Japan, post-war times. If it wasn’t for talents like Mae Young to get the ball rolling, who knows where women’s wrestling would be today?
