In lieu of speculation regarding the Women’s Tag Title match at WrestleMania 36, new WWE rumors suggest that Beth Phoenix may or may not be involved.

The more longstanding WWE rumors have suggested that Beth Phoenix and Natalya are next in line to battle for the Women’s Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 36, much like they did last year at Mania in a Fatal Four Way title match. This time, the Divas of Doom would be taking on the current reigning and defending champs, The Kabuki Warriors.

However, last Friday on SmackDown during her Moment of Bliss talk show segment, Alexa Bliss made an impromptu challenge to Asuka and Kairi Sane’s tag titles for herself and Nikki Cross. Which, naturally, led to new speculation that we will be getting Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross vs. The Kabuki Warriors for the belts at Mania instead.

This begs the question who could Asuka and Sane actually defend their titles against at WrestleMania? Could it be the Divas of Doom or Bliss and Cross? Why not both?

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t IWNerd) says that Beth Phoenix’s status that Beth Phoenix’s WrestleMania status is currently up in the air. Hence why Bliss and Cross’ hats were tossed into title contention last Friday, but that does not automatically mean Bliss and Cross vs. Asuka and Sane is jotted down for Mania.

There is also a possibility that we get a title match involving all three teams in a Triple Threat, something that Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT has backed up.

It is unclear as to why Phoenix’s status is “up in the air” right now, but it makes sense considering she has already inserted herself into the Edge vs. Randy Orton storyline for WrestleMania. Even if she doesn’t back away from in-ring action to sell her recent RKO, one has to think that her Mania involvement would be more deeply rooted into this storyline than a tag match. Hopping from storyline to storyline may look jarring.

In any case, as with most rumors, we will just have to wait and see what happens.
