WWE: 10 hilarious gimmick matches to distract you from quarantine
9. Punjabi Prison Match: The Undertaker vs. The Big Show (Great American Bash 2006
There was no way this list wasn’t going to include one of the three Punjabi Prison Matches in WWE history, none of which were good matches. However, the very first was perhaps the most hilarious clusterf*** of absurdity, and it began before the bell even rang.
Going into WWE Great American Bash 2006, a bitter rivalry between The Undertaker and The Great Khali was due to culminate in this first-ever Punjabi Prison Match. However, The Great Khali wasn’t medically cleared for the contest due to elevated liver enzymes.
The match had to be changed, and wasn’t changed until literally minutes before the match was due to take place. To get the full experience, you also need to watch the two segments before the match, where a spontaneous backstage attack leads Teddy Long to change the match and put Big Show in as a replacement for The Great Khali.
The match itself was fairly nonsensical. The detailed rules of the match weren’t explained until it was already underway, and two tables covered in bamboo weapons and leaves that were just outside the ring weren’t even mentioned or shown on camera until several minutes into the match. It’s an absolute mess.
