WWE: 10 hilarious gimmick matches to distract you from quarantine
4. WWE Universal Championship Hell in a Cell Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt (Hell in a Cell 2019)
In mid-2019, Bray Wyatt reinvented himself by revealing the new terrifying alter ego The Fiend. Wyatt first targeted Finn Balor, demolishing Balor in only a few minutes in his first match as The Fiend at SummerSlam 2019. Through Wyatt’s fascinating backstage vignettes and episode of the Firefly Fun House, The Fiend was the hottest act in WWE that Summer…despite being a heel.
Which made it all the less logical when WWE started to set this match up. WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins was already losing steam as a top babyface, and some fans were turning on him. It wasn’t helped when The Fiend started targeting him and the crowd constantly cheered The Fiend’s attacks on Rollins.
Things got weird from the moment the bell rang, as the ominous red lighting during the latter part of The Fiend’s entrance stayed on, rather than the lights being brought up to clearly illuminate things. Hell in a Cell matches can be difficult to see to begin with, so this didn’t exactly give them an early edge.
What followed was an amusingly bad trainwreck. Seth Rollins hit The Fiend with so many Stomps that it became hard to keep count, but The Fiend just kept kicking out. It only took three Stomps for Rollins to defeat Brock Lesnar.
The weapons got crazier, and the crowd turned on the match, booing heavily as things escalated into a nonsensical referee stoppage despite the match being no disqualifications.
