WrestleMania 21 (April 3, 2005 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA)

While WrestleMania 19 might have been the last hurrah for some parts of the Attitude Era, WrestleMania 21 was the definitive start to a completely new era in WWE. Before we get to the night’s two main events which both were symbolic passing of torches, there were some other amazing contests throughout the night.

Rey Mysterio took on Eddie Guerrero in a great opener, which was followed by the inaugural Money in the Bank Ladder Match. We’d seen six men in a ladder match via TLC and the Triangle Ladder Match, but those were all tag team contests.

This was the first match of its kind and remains one of the greatest MITB matches of all time. The Undertaker continued his dominant streak with a great clash against a young Randy Orton.

In what was easily the match of the night, and still one of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history, we saw Kurt Angle take on Shawn Michaels. It was the first time the two had ever locked up and led to over 27 minutes of drama that is worth watching over and over again.

The night’s two main events saw John Cena challenging JBL for the WWE Championship and Batista challenging Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. Both were solid contests and saw Batista and John Cena head into WWE’s new era as the faces of their respective brands.
