AEW: Why Hangman Page is going to turn on Omega at Blood and Guts
AEW Blood and Guts was supposed to happen Mar. 25. It’s now TBD due to the novel coronavirus and social distancing.
Hangman Page and Kenny Omega have always seemed to be a tag team to good to be true. Then, they went and won the AEW Tag Team Titles. The new champions followed that up with one of the best tag team matches ever against other members of The Elite, the Young Bucks. They are an excellent tag team and their underlying turmoil has added an extra layer.
Prior to Page teaming up with Omega, he told them he wanted to distance himself from The Elite. In fact, Page has brought up multiple times since then. Once they became a tag team, Omega suggested a new segment where they ripped off another Being the Elite segment of “Marty & Flip Take Japan”. Page quickly declined.
Page has been increasingly jealous of Omega’s relationship with the Young Bucks. After losing the inaugural AEW World Championship match, Page has felt like an undeserving member of The Elite. Omega and the Bucks have such a tight relationship that Page feels like the third (fourth?) wheel. Page has really seemed to zero in on his dislike of Nick Jackson.
Conspiracy theory time: Hangman Page was actually the one that attacked Nick. Prior to the number one contender tag team match, Page was directing the other teams on how to attack the Bucks. On the BTE after Nick’s attack, Page acted very shifty.
Although he acted like he didn’t know that Nick was in the hospital, he wasn’t very convincing. He refused to go to the hospital. Page could pass it off as the tension between them, when in reality it’s because he was afraid Nick would name him as his attacker.
In the backstage segment where The Elite learned of the attack, Jericho said, “we just ran into him in the hallway.” To further this theory, when Jericho was on commentary, he mentioned that he found Nick after he was attacked.
The implication is obviously that the Inner Circle attacked Nick. Could it be that they did actually find Nick, but since they were unaware of who the perpetrator was, they took credit for it to get another edge over The Elite?
Page seems to be more paranoid as the weeks pass. Hangman has cost his teammates matches and doesn’t inspire much faith from them in a War Games match. The rest of The Elite run like a well oiled machine, while Page is always a wildcard. Being inside an enclosed cage would be the perfect time for Page to turn on his tag team partner.
Turning on Omega at this time should give AEW enough time to set up Page vs. Omega at Double or Nothing. We all know the turn is coming and there’s no time like the present.
At this point, the novel coronavirus could push Blood and Guts very close to their next pay-per-view. AEW typically builds up their big shows over a couple of months. If they have enough time, this could play out beautifully.
Losing to Jericho is the best thing that could’ve ever happened to Hangman Page. He’s endeared himself to fans and quickly become a favorite.
Omega is a huge star and although they’ve been excellent tag team champions, Page needs to face Omega. He needs the validation of going one-on-one with one of the world’s best. Maybe then, Hangman Page will finally know he’s good enough to be Elite.
