WWE: Ranking the Top 25 NXT TakeOver matches of all time
13. NXT Women’s Championship Match: Charlotte [with Ric Flair] vs. Natalya [with Bret Hart] (NXT TakeOver, Full Sail University, 5/29/14)
This clash for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship from the first-ever NXT TakeOver still stands as one of the brand’s top women’s match. On top of that, I’d argue it’s potentially the greatest match (and story) of Natalya’s career.
Charlotte was a far cry from The Queen we see today, but she came into this contest with her father by her side while Natalya had her uncle by hers. Both women took things up a notch, delivering a fantastic match that continued to prove just how must-see the NXT women’s division would be in the coming years.
12. NXT Tag Team Championship 2-out-of-3 Falls Match: The Revival [Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson] (c) vs. DIY [Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa] (NXT TakeOver: Toronto, Air Canada Centre, 11/19/16)
Before we saw the implosion of DIY which led to the bitter and personal rivalry they have today, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa were one of the most beloved teams in NXT history. Fans were clamoring to see them capture the NXT Tag Team Titles.
This wasn’t their first shot at The Revival, but it’s definitely the best match these two teams had. This 2-out-of-3 Falls Match showcased some of the best tag team wrestling in NXT TakeOver history and will give you perhaps a better idea of what made both these teams special than any other match of theirs.
11. WarGames Match: Team Ripley [Rhea Ripley, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, and Dakota Kai] vs. Team Baszler [Shayna Baszler, Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, and Kay Lee Ray] (NXT TakeOver: WarGames, Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL, 11/23/19)
The first and, so far, only women’s WarGames Match proved to be one of the most memorable matches in NXT history, and in my opinion, the best WarGames match we’ve seen NXT produce yet. To begin, this was an absolute all-star collection of talent from NXT, as well as NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray.
The match started strong, but things really took a turn when Dakota Kai shockingly turned on Tegan Nox, leaving her so hurt she was unable to compete. Kai then refused to fight for her team, leaving Team Ripley with a 2-on-4 disadvantage to overcome, but Rhea Ripley showed no obstacles are insurmountable.
