Ronda Rousey’s WWE return is imminent, but not necessary

With WWE’s women’s division in a better place now than when Ronda Rousey was originally on TV, they don’t necessarily need the Baddest Woman on the Planet.

As Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda recently reported, Ronda Rousey’s three year contract with WWE is set to expire soon and is now currently negotiating a new deal with the company. Since her 2018-19 run on television – especially during her time as Raw Women’s Champion – was considered a success in every stretch of the word by all parties involved, it seems inevitable that Rousey is resigning.

With a new contract expected to start around this weekend’s WrestleMania 36, the question is not whether or not she will return to WWE, but whether or not she needs to come back at all.

To her credit, Rousey lived up to her status as the Baddest Woman on the Planet with the best rookie year anyone has seen inside of a WWE ring. Maybe the best wrestling debut year for any wrestler inside of any squared circle at that. She accomplished a lot, but what’s left to accomplish?

When we look at what’s left for Rousey, all that’s really left is a one-on-one match with Becky Lynch. Maybe even a Four Horsewomen vs. Four Horsewomen dream match some people are salivating for, but the real money is still in Lynch vs. Rousey despite the finish to WrestleMania 35.

Outside of that, there isn’t much reason to get excited about an in-ring return for the Mania main eventer.

On top of that, the women’s division suffered more with Rousey at the helm of the division than what she did to help it. Mind you, Rousey being positioned at the top of that mountain demanded WWE to invest more time and effort into pushing the women’s division. That’s why we ended up getting an all women’s PPV and the first women’s main event in WrestleMania history.

However, seeing Rousey bulldoze through every single member of the Raw women’s division one by one hurt the credibility of a lot of Superstars, with very few looking strong in defeat. I worry that more of the same could happen if and when Rousey returns to working shows regularly.

Fans already stirred up an uproar over Shayna Baszler bulldozing through her opponents inside of the Elimination Chamber. Just imagine the reaction when both Superstars start doing so on Raw, possibly side by side.

While Rousey’s in-ring return is inevitable, it feels like there’s very little uptick to her coming back and thus, a return is hard to get excited about. But nonetheless, expect Ronda Rousey to be back on WWE TV sooner rather than later.
