Best way to build to SummerSlam

Most wrestling fans were upset when it became clear that Sasha Banks vs. Bayley would not be happening for the SmackDown Women’s Title at WrestleMania 36. Singles matches for world titles are far more exciting and usually more meaningful at the Show of Shows, and there wouldn’t be a more meaningful match than Bayley vs. Banks, given the rich history they have together.

So the next best thing is a match at SummerSlam, where the two world-class wrestlers would theoretically get more time to weave the perfect story. They had a wonderful SummerSlam weekend match five years ago at the first NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, and the scary thing is they have the potential to top that all-time classic in 2020.

It won’t be easy, but the right build could make it happen. Now, a global pandemic has made it more difficult to envision an ideal build happening, but if things get better by the time August rolls around, the circumstances could make a spirit-lifting match between these two living legends all the more meaningful.

And if Sasha is the champion, it gives the story a new twist. How will Bayely react after losing her first big title match to Banks? How will WWE use Sasha’s win to tell a story around the dynamic between the two of them? Fans are wondering who would be heel and who would be the face, and WWE could toy around with that.
