WrestleMania 36 Results: Drew McIntyre is one of the top stars now
At WrestleMania 36, Drew McIntyre fulfilled his destiny by defeating Brock Lesnar in the second night’s main event. He’s one of the top stars now.
When Drew McIntyre Claymored Brock Lesnar straight over the top rope at the 2020 Royal Rumble after The Beast Incarnate had eliminated the field in record fashion, he was a made man.
And when McIntyre Claymored The Beast for a fourth time in the main event of WrestleMania 36’s Night 2, McIntyre established himself as one of the top stars in the company.
It will take months of hard work and upping his game for McIntyre to be even mentioned in the same breath as Roman Reigns and Becky Lynch, but he’s firmly on the Seth Rollins tier of people who can regularly be in big matches at big shows and in the main event picture.
WWE gets criticized for teasing pushes, only to pull the rug from underneath someone. So many fans weren’t getting their hopes up for McIntyre winning in the main event of WrestleMania 36, especially since so many weren’t sure he’d even main event against Lesnar in the first place.
But now that McIntyre is WWE Champion, there’s no doubt he’s one of the wrestlers at the top of the mountain.
Braun Strowman also won a world title, the Universal Championship, during the two-night WrestleMania 36 by defeating Goldberg in a finisher spam-fest. And McIntyre’s match was similarly laid out to Strowman’s.
McIntyre kicked out of three F5’s, including at “one” the first time. He needed for Claymores to beat Lesnar, much like Seth Rollins had to keep on using “The Stomp” to defeat the dominant former UFC Champion.
But unlike Strowman’s win, this one from McIntyre was built up over the past couple of months since his tremendous Royal Rumble victory over Lesnar. Plus, McIntyre’s redemption story has been years in the making. He left WWE after being anointed “The Chosen One” to mature and become a true star, eventually becoming the NXT Champion. His time on Raw got off to a quick start before he was forgotten, but with help from Paul Heyman and Lesnar, McIntyre has gotten back on track.
McIntyre will have to keep putting in the work, but we’ve rarely seen someone as driven as him. With his special athletic gifts and intensity on the mic, McIntyre will put his work ethic and gifts to use as WWE Champion, bringing Raw the full-time champ it needs.
The era of McIntyre has begun, and he has joined the ranks as the next big star in WWE. Now, it’s his time to work his way further up the ladder to being one of the rare megastars. It’s in his hands now after this important victory over The Beast himself.
