WWE MITB 2020: Why Braun Strowman should defeat Bray Wyatt
This is the “Firefly Fun House” Wyatt, not The Fiend
This will be the second feud since the debut of “Firefly Fun House” and The Fiend where Wyatt is wrestling the match in his “Fun House” character and not The Fiend. The first was his TLC match against The Miz.
Then again, was it Wyatt, The Fiend, both, or neither in that “Firefly Fun House” match against Cena?
Whatever the case, Wyatt has from the beginning made this about Strowman’s connection to him during the days of The Wyatt Family. As I noted in my “Smacks/Downs” from two weeks ago, Wyatt didn’t just bring Strowman to WWE, he arguably created the Strowman we know today (all in kayfabe, of course).
Because of this history and the lack of one-on-one matches (they were on opposing sides of the RAW vs. SmackDown Live! Survivor Series style match in 2016), Wyatt challenging instead of The Fiend is logical. The Fiend has usually appeared to adversaries that have caused some kind of “change” in Wyatt, usually through defeat.
Including his match with The Miz, is this version of Wyatt a formidable foe to Strowman? Psychologically, we know Wyatt is unparalleled right now in WWE. Physically, however, even though he himself is a large individual, he still pales in comparison next to Strowman.
His menacing-in-a-button-up-and-sweater character works well particularly for the psychological aspects, but this character has also shown to be more timid and fearful. This should lead to a decisive Strowman victory.
An emphatic title defense for Strowman also allows him to (in kayfabe) put to rest any speculation that his status is tied to his involvement with Wyatt. By pinning Wyatt 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring, he “buries” that part of his past.
Remember how The Fiend needs some sort of impetus for appearing? Well…
