Impact Wrestling Rebellion Night 2: Results, Highlights, and Grades
Michael Elgin vs. Moose vs. Hernandez
Result: Moose is the self-proclaimed TNA World Champion
Rating: 3.75/5.0 Stars
Grade: A-
Impact Wrestling lost their Rebellion main event, but that didn’t mean the storyline was over. I give them props for working with what they have, and what they have is Michael Elgin. The powerhouse has officially been on the Impact roster for a year, so it makes sense that he’s pursuing the World Championship so intensely.
He made proclamations for weeks that he should be handed the title since Blanchard “chickened out” and Edwards also “failed” to step up to the plate. Elgin demanded that Brandon Tolle raise his hand, while David Penzer announce him as the new champion until the lights went out and… MOOSE!
We knew Moose was going to show up here after his teases of an announcement over the last week. But we did not expect him to show up with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt! This story writes itself. Moose has been busting his butt for years in TNA/Impact, while Elgin is demanding to be crowned champion after a year on the roster.
Aaand just when we thought it was perfect, TNA original Hernandez walked out to shut them up. Rebellion was supposed to end in a three-way dance, so here we have it. The TNA World Title was not technically on the line, yet that didn’t stop these guys from fighting like it was.
This was a hoss-fight in every sense of the word. The match flow felt interrupted by several (lengthy) commercial breaks, at least on the Twitch feed. Annoying disruptions aside, this “generational” match was a unique answer to the circumstances at bay.
The ending featured two ref bumps thanks to Elgin’s frustrations. It wasn’t long before Moose pulled Hernandez back in the ring for a Spear and a three! With Elgin being a focus as of late, I’ll admit that I’m surprised he lost. Even so, Moose going over makes sense with the lack of Tessa and Eddie in the weeks or months going forward. Expect an “undisputed” World Title match down the line when Blanchard returns.
Rebellion Night Two was fun, but I feel like Night One may have been my favorite. Night Two had decent matches with the action and surprises picking up at the very end. Hopefully Impact can hold Slammiversary this summer under better circumstances.
