WWE: 5 Superstars Who are Long Overdue for a Big Push
By Mark Justice
1.) Cesaro
Cesaro, a former United States Champion and six-time tag team champion, arrived to the main roster and made an impact by dethroning Santino Marella to become United States Champion with Aksana on his side, forming memorable tag teams with Tyson Kidd, Jack Swagger, and Sheamus, and later joining Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn to form The Artist Collective in what is a hall-of-fame worthy faction. For years, many WWE fans have seen Cesaro as a breakout star for the main event scene but the WWE has still not pulled the trigger on this demand yet.
If anyone recalls Vince McMahon’s comments on ambition in the locker room, he declaimed that Cesaro is too Swiss to connect to the WWE Universe and grab that brass ring. With all of the discrimination that was addressed earlier in this article, does this comment by Vince McMahon make things any more obvious?
It is clear that the poor booking of Cesaro on SmackDown as just a sidekick or tag team superstar with no future in singles competition is a massive injustice to his many talents that are disclosed through his incredible strength, athleticism and profound in-ring psychology inside the squared circle (i.e. he truly has the full package).
How does the WWE expect Cesaro’s stock to rise in the eye of the common viewer if he keeps losing almost all of his matches? How does the WWE expect the WWE fans to remember that Cesaro is one of the most charismatic men in WWE history if he does not get ample mic time?
How does the WWE expect Cesaro to get a solid connection with the pro wrestling fanbase if his story is not being told the way he wants it to be told? How does the company expect Cesaro to get any better if the company does not take a risk with his talents?
Cesaro’s gimmick of being the Swiss Superman who used his in-ring skills to connect with the WWE Universe clearly shows that he is championship material, but the WWE Universe does not know this yet because his exclusion from the main event scene does not support it. As long as the WWE gives him more singles matches rather than merely tag team matches in the ring, he will prove why he needs to be pushed, rather than wasted. Like Ruby Riott, Cedric Alexander, Mustafa Ali, and Big E, Cesaro delivers.
