“Pineapple Pete” has caught the hearts of AEW fans and the ire of “Le Champion” Chris Jericho

With AEW taping shows in advance, the company has been short-handed with talent available due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. They made the decision to begin using indie talent on both Dark and Dynamite. Who has stood out the most?

Pineapple Pete.

“Pineapple Pete” is actually SUGE D. Prior to wrestling on AEW, Suge responded to Shawn Spears‘ search for a tag team partner. His submission for the #SearchforSpears was used on Dynamite.

Just a couple weeks later, SUGE D wrestled on Dark against Kip Sabian. The two had previously faced off in the U.K. and their chemistry was obvious. Sabian got the win, but SUGE D would be back.

Before having another match, the “Catch Artiste” was frequently ringside, rocking a pineapple shirt. While facing Inner Circle member, Sammy Guevara, Chris Jericho dubbed SUGE D “Pineapple Pete”. On commentary, “Le Champion” said that “Pineapple Pete” annoyed him.

“Pineapple Pete” has been trending on Twitter weekly. SUGE D cashed in on all the buzz by releasing an official Pineapple Pete shirt. Jericho has commented frequently about his disdain for “Pineapple Pete”.

Things escalated on this week’s Dynamite when SUGE D swung at Jericho over the barricade. Inner Circle member Jake Hager didn’t take to kindly to this action and seemed to consider taking matters into his own hands. This action led to the announcement that Jericho will face his new nemesis on the May 13 episode of Dynamite.

This will be SUGE D’s biggest match of his career. Jericho is a legend in this business and is known for his work of putting up-and-comers over. While this seems like an overnight sensation, it’s been nearly two decades in the making. It also comes on the heels of SUGE D contemplating hanging up his boots for good at the beginning of this year.

SUGE D is the current Premiere Wrestling Xperience PURE Champion. He has wrestled for companies such as IMPACT, CHIKARA, Beyond Wrestling, CZW and EVOLVE. He can do comedic wrestling as well as technical wrestling.

He’s wrestled in many countries across Europe, including Romania. While on excursion to Europe in 2019, SUGE D wrestled for PROGRESS and RevPro, among others. He was so accepted and beloved by British fans, that he is now announced that he’s from Leeds, England by way of Georgia.

No matter what happens against Jericho, SUGE D is a star. Whether that’s as “Pineapple Pete” or just himself, you can’t deny the juice.

In these uncertain times, it’s wonderful to see the emergence of someone we can all get behind. SUGE D bet on himself and so should you.
