Cody needs to defend the Rhodes Family

Ever since Dustin joined AEW and had his big bloody bout with Cody, the Rhodes family have made themselves very visible in the promotion. Brandi will accompany Dustin to the ring for matches, and brothers will be seen together in and out of the ring. They have fully embraced the idea of this wrestling family on AEW TV.

Since the introduction of Jake Roberts and Lance Archer to AEW, the duo have taken issue with the AEW “royal family” and set them in their crosshairs. Cody was proclaimed “Caesar” by Roberts and told that his family and hold on AEW would be threatened.

The tension between Cody and the looming threat of Lance Archer behinds the raspy prophecies of Jake Roberts kept building and building.

Then, the TNT Championship Tournament was announced and the brackets revealed: on one side sat Cody, and, on the other, Lance Archer. Destiny seemed to have the cards in place for these two to meet. On Cody’s path, revisiting old feuds and fan favorite matches. On Archer’s path, there sat his next target: Dustin Rhodes.

Dustin came face-to-face with Archer, and, while the match was competitive at some points, Archer began to decimate Dustin. There he laid, bloody and struggling to get up. This time, it wasn’t Cody in the ring. He was at ringside, with his wife, watching. He had the chance to throw in the towel for his brother, but didn’t. Dustin was eventually defeated. One family member down.

The next week, Brandi cut a promo, standing up to Roberts and his veiled threats. Then, after accompanying QT Marshall in his match-up against Archer, she was attacked by Britt Baker and thrown in the ring. With Lance Archer above her, she was then “taunted” by Jake Roberts with a snake. Another family member down.

With all these attacks on his family and what he built, Cody has to win this feud. Arguably, this is the most he has ever had at stake. He needs to win for his family.
