WWE Money in the Bank 2020 Takeaways: Otis is about to make history
WWE Money in the Bank 2020 was an excellent show, and here are the five biggest takeaways from Sunday night’s action.
Although AJ Styles was seen as the favorite and Aleister Black the rising star with the most likelihood of grabbing the Men’s Money in the Bank briefcase, it was Otis who gladly scooped up the win at WWE Money in the Bank 2020 without even having to climb the ladder. (Since, you know, he couldn’t actually climb it!)
Asuka joined Otis as the Women’s Money in the Bank winner, while all four title matches involved the champions retaining the belts.
Here are the five biggest takeaways from the show.
1. Otis can break precedent in a huge way
Otis as the WWE Money in the Bank 2020 men’s winner opens up two exciting possibilities that my colleagues raised before the show. Firstly, Dorathy Gass argued for Otis winning the briefcase and cashing in on the SmackDown Tag Team Titles to give Tucker and him the championships, putting over the tag titles as highly valuable. Daniel Bryan would be proud after once calling Tucker and him “jokes”.
Meanwhile, Colby Applegate wondered if Otis could gift the briefcase to his on-screen partner Mandy Rose, who could then use it in the future to have a title feud with Sonya Deville.
I’m not sure the second option will happen, nor do I like the idea of Mandy’s first babyface title win being from a “gifted” cash-in, but Otis could try to offer it in a heartwarming gesture. And Mandy could decline, saying she wants to win it “the right way”.
However, I think the first option of Otis cashing in on the tag titles is more likely. WWE won’t a pop from cash-ins until the distant future, and that’s hard to predict. They can hold off on Asuka’s cash-in, but they could do Otis’ sooner for the tag titles, especially if they don’t think Otis is ready for a world title. (He’s not.)
So either way, expect Otis to make history.
