Adam Cole (c) vs. Kevin Owens – NXT Championship

This one was a tough one to figure out because as of now, Adam Cole doesn’t really have a definitive, sure fire challenger in front of him. He just beat Velveteen Dream and because some, um … let’s call them “damning allegations” … are still fresh in all of our minds enough to make us do a double take whenever we see him, I’m assuming Dream is going to be M.I.A. on TV for awhile.

Looking at Cole’s and Undisputed ERA’s current feuds, that only leaves someone named (checks notes) Dexter Lumis. And no offense to Lumis (the guy is growing on me, truth be told), but he’s not really a big enough name to justify filling out one of the TakeOver main event slots in a title match, especially when Lumis has yet to compete on a TakeOver of his own.

So, since it’s still early and anything can happen between now and Jun. 7, let’s just get a little crazy for the heck of it: Kevin Owens returns on the road to TakeOver to challenge Cole.

Yes, KO is still on the shelf with an ankle injury, but as of this writing, it appears not to be a serious one as WrestlingNews.Co reports he’ll just be out “a few more weeks.” With a few weeks to go until TakeOver, that’s just enough time for a return.

Cole and Owens already have history from the last TakeOver: WarGames, and motivation for Owens wanting the title could be written off by how important it’ll be for him to win a second NXT Championship at the Performance Center, similar to how the PC played a part in storytelling for the road to Mania, with his match vs. Rollins. Plus, the new Brand to Brand Invitational helps justify this happening.
