5 Post-WWE Matches for Drew Gulak
By Bryan Heaton
Jonathan Gresham
Next up is one more wrestler that Drew Gulak has faced in the past and another who has elevated his game since their last encounter. Jonathan Gresham is another wrestler I would put in the ZSJ/Gulak category of greatest technical wrestlers around. But Gresham has an extra quickness to his game that you don’t always see from Sabre or Gulak, which makes him an incredibly appealing opponent.
The most recent match between Gresham and Gulak was a trios match in EVOLVE during the Catch Point heyday, with the Gulak-led stable earning the W. In singles matches, though, Gresham is up 2-1 — though two of those three matches are from roughly a decade ago.
Since the EVOLVE bout, Gresham has been a standout in Ring of Honor with some stops in PWG, Beyond Wrestling, and NJPW along the way. Right now, Gresham is one half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions with Jay Lethal, a team which gives Gresham the opportunity to work with one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the history of ROH.
As I mentioned above, what sets Gresham apart from the other notable technicians of today is his speed. I wouldn’t call Gulak or Sabre slow, but Gresham is quick. And that speed doesn’t make his moves sloppy or ineffective. He’s just as precise as anyone in the game, if not more so, but he can tie you up from out of nowhere.
Assuming the Philadelphia native Gulak wants to “go home,” Ring of Honor is the largest promotion based near Philly. There’s plenty of other great options in ROH for Gulak to face – Marty Scurll and Jeff Cobb chief among them, in my opinion – but Gresham would be my choice.
