The Dudley Boyz

WCW World Tag Team Championships: The Dudley Boyz – 1x (The WCW World Tag Team Championships were defended after WCW had been acquired by WWE, The Dudley Boyz were the last champions before the championships were unified with the WWF Tag Team Championships)

Starting in Extreme Championship Wrestling, The Dudley Boys were a ragtag motley group of half-brothers, all the offspring of the mysterious and yet extremely promiscuous Big Daddy Dudley. The group consisted originally of Dudley Dudley, Lil Snot Dudley, and Big Dick Dudley.

The group later added Chubby Dudley, the culturally insensitive Dances With Dudley, and Sign Guy Dudley. Coming in as a later addition to the group was the stuttering, smiling face of Buh Buh Ray Dudley. As The Dudley Boys transitioned from members of Raven’s Flock to more comedic stylings, D-Von Dudley crashed the party, attacked his siblings, and declared that this was not the way “true Dudleys” should conduct themselves.

Soon after, Buh Buh Ray joined forces with D-Von and one of the most vicious, assertive heel tag teams in ECW was established. Their success in the Philadelphia-based promotion translated into WWE success. The brothers debuted in WWE in1999 and helped to establish some of the best tag team matches in WWE, helping the promotion stand apart and rise above WCW.

Though a more hardcore style had been prevalent in WWE since 1996 thanks to the efforts of another ECW alum, Mick Foley, The Dudley Boyz (now with a ‘z’, which was the style at the time) helped to further elevate hardcore wrestling in the tag team medium on the mainstream stage.
