Men’s Division

Finn Balor – “Catch Your Breath”

DUN DUN, DUN DUN NANA, DUNANANANA

The song is a modern day example of a perfect wrestling theme song: it’s not even arguable. Think of every incarnation of Balor: face or heel, regular or demon. Not once doe this theme song feel out of place.  As a face, it works with the coolness and mystique of the good-looking guy with the immensely talent work ethic and ring talent.

As a heel, it delivers the warning of impending destruction, coated in sleek and savy, as he is untouchable. Then, as the demon, it delivers an ominous, dark, terrifying feel that brings the world of wrestling its knees.

There are so many different instrumental parts to this song, it would be like trying to break down Bohemian Rhapsody for you. For once, I’ll let the song do the talking for you.

Bow down to the Demon King.

10 out of 10? This one goes to 11.

Chances of you throwing out your shoulder trying to pose with Balor? Astronomically high.

A rising urge to double stomp people around you? Undeniable.

Likelihood of listening to it outside of a wrestling show? Always.

Women’s Division

Io Shirai – “Tokyo Shock”

Dude, when that heel turn happened, and the music hit the NXT area, covered in darkness, it was excellence.

The intro shatters the silence with well-placed notes before sending you into the chaos of a repetitive high-energy beat. The only break you are given is the isolated chimes sprinkled in before you are thrown back into the chaos.

It is a perfect representation of Io now, the dark intro reflects that moment of calm before the storm that is her wrestling. Then, the song progression captures her chaotic energy as he makes her way to the ring and puts on master classes of technical wrestling. The isolated chimes gives us a glimpse into her opponents’ minds when they try to catch their breathes in between moments of a beating.

Do the skies feel evil now-a-days? Yes.

Chances you go crazy and start fighting everyone? High.

Likelihood of listening to it outside of a wrestling show? Yep yep.

Tag Team Division

Undisputed Era – “Undisputed”

SHOCK THE SYSTEM!

DUN DUN, DUN DUN DUNANA, DUN DUN DUNA, DUNAA NA

Okay, okay. Anyone who knows me knows I looove the Undisputed Era. For Cole’s sake, I’ve written two promo pieces about them (here and here). These guys are one of my favorites, and their theme song is sooo good, even they air guitar to it.

It’s a great demonstration of cockiness, confidence, precision, and controlled energy. This is the song for the baddies that are in control. They play by their rules and do things on their own terms.

The song begins with the vocals of someone saying “Shock the System,” a declaration that tells everyone these guys aren’t playing around. A sound effect that sounds like an explosion kicks the song off before transiting into the instrumental. The music is led by numerous guitar riffs, accompanied by anchoring drum fills, and sporadic vocals. Every second is planned and used to its maximum potential.

BOOM!

Get lost in the guitar solo? Yes.

Chances of straining your vocals? Critical

Chances of you walking around your room with the upmost swagger? Critical

Have you got the timing right? Down to a T.
